Schynige Platte, Interlaken Overview

Schynige Platte is a picturesque mountain ridge located approximately 7 kilometers southwest of Interlaken. Perched at an elevation of about 1,967 meters, it offers panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks, as well as Lake Thun. A historic cogwheel train ride from Wilderswil to the summit is its highlight. Numerous hiking trails here cater to various skill levels, including the popular panorama trail leading to viewpoints like Daube and Oberberghorn.

At the top, the Alpine Botanical Garden showcases over 750 species of alpine plants, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. Traditional Swiss alphorn performances between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM add to the cultural experience. To reach Schynige Platte, travelers typically start from Interlaken, taking a train to Wilderswil station. From there, the cogwheel railway departs every 40 minutes between 7:25 AM and 4:45 PM, with the ascent taking approximately 52 minutes. The railway operates from late May to late October, depending on weather conditions.
