Sodal Mandir, Jalandhar Overview

Sodal Mandir is a temple located in Jalandhar, Punjab. The temple’s deity is Baba Sodal and is worshipped by over millions of Pilgrims. Every year on Anant Chodas, also known as Anant Chaturdashi a fair is held at Sodal Temple where pilgrims from all over the country of all religions, castes, and creeds attend to enjoy the festivities and collect the blessings of Baba Sodal.

Legend of Sodal Mandir

According to the legend, Baba Sodal accompanied his mother to the river banks even when she told him to stay home. The mother got furious, cursed the child and told him to drown himself in water. Baba Sodal asked his mother to repeat her orders, and when she did, he jumped into the water to never appear again. It is said that the boy transformed himself into a holy snake and bid adieu to the mortal world. A temple was built where this incident took place called Baba Sodal Temple. Millions of pilgrims take a dip in the holy water reservoir beside the temple where Baba Sodal had jumped; it’s called Baba Sodal da Sarovar.

How To Reach Sodal Mandir

Jalandhar has a sophisticated transport system and is connected to major cities through roadways and railways. Jalandhar Railway Station is located at a distance of 3.7 km from Sodal Temple which can be easily covered by auto-rickshaw or taxis. Jalandhar does not have an airport, but there is an airport in Amritsar which is at a distance of 75 km from Jalandhar. Within the city buses are available. The nearest bus stop from the temple is at a distance of 6 km. Hand rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and taxis are easily accessible to travel to the temple. Cabs are available if you want to travel more comfortably. The city also has a lot of car rental services if you prefer to go on your own.
