The most popular festival, Marwar Festival, is all about celebrating the bygone heroes of Jodhpur. Held at the Mehrangarh Fort and Umaid Bhawan Palace, this festival has evolved over the years and is now the epitome of showcasing the culture of the 'Blue City'. Marwar, was founded by Raja Rao, in the year 1459. He was the chief of the Rathore tribe of Rajputs. This festival specifically is a celebration dedicated to all of the Rajput heroes, as they stood for an important quality in the battlefields, bravery. However, this festival now stands for much more. The Marwar Festival showcases the amazing talent that Marwar has, what with the numerous folk musicians and dancers residing in it. The folk artists are given a chance to show their talent to the tourists visiting this festival. Apart from the musical events, the Marwar festival also has other events like - Puppet shows, Horse Polo, Camel Tattoo show and much more! This festival takes place over the course of two days between October 12-13th.
The aspect that makes this festival unique is the Rajasthani Fair that goes on throughout the duration of the festival. You can spot and buy a whole lot of Rajasthani handicrafts, instruments, clothes, and ornaments. For the entire duration of the festival - Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mehrangarh Fort, and Mandore Gardens and the area around it, transform into performance arenas. The Marwar festival is attended by tourists from India as well as all over the world.
