Kamari is a seaside village, located at the north foot of Mesa Vouno mountain, on the southeastern coast of Santorini. It is just a stoneÍs throw away from the capital Fira. Getting Around:
Renting an ATV is recommended for getting around other nearby places, although Santorini has a frequent bus transport system.
There are ferries that operate between Kamari beach and Perissa beach that take about only 10 minutes.
Private Transfers from Santorini to Kamari costs around EUR 25. It is recommended to book them in advance as there are few cabs available on the island.

Operating Hours:
Restaurants and shops remain open till late at night and most bars on the beach side open till morning.
The beach is accessible throughout the night while water sport activities open at sunrise to close by sunset and the playground closes by 6:00 PM.

Stay: Kamari serves as a better option to stay on a tight budget over other popular towns like Fira and Oia.

History of Kamari

The beach village of Kamari got its name from the word kamara, meaning the remaining arch of the auspicious temple of Posiedon on the north side of the beach, on the foot of mount of Mesa Vouno. In ancient times, in the vicinity was located the port of Santorini, which was known as the port of ancient Oia( Now submerged in water). After the destructive earthquake of 1956, the village was expanded and citizens of nearby Episkopi Gonia moved here.

Day 2: Catch an early morning ferry to Fira and head towards Oia on foot or by ropeway. Wander around narrow streets and line up for sunset viewing on one of the viewpoints like Oia castle or the blue domed churches. Return to Fira to explore the harbour and its backstreets.

With more time, visiting and exploring the nearby islands of Mykonos, Naxos and Paros is possible.
