Kamari is a seaside village, located at the north foot of Mesa Vouno mountain, on the southeastern coast of Santorini. It is just a stoneÍs throw away from the capital Fira. The village is popular for its modern infrastructure and a long-parallel promenade for a leisure stroll packed with shops, restaurants, taverns and cafe-bars. The beach features crystal clear waters with black sand and pebbles.
With a perfectly-managed 5 mile long beach, Kamari boasts numerous sunbeds with umbrellas, a lifeguard, a water sports activity centre and a football, volleyball playground. This Blue Flag awarded beach offers all the amenities and is included in 3 longest beaches of Santorini. Major attractions nearby include the ruins of ancient thira and Kamari Boulevard. The village is walkable and more developed in comparison to other seaside villages like Perissa and well connected to other parts of the island through a frequent public bus transport with several churches and an open air theatre with amazing views.
Getting Around:
Renting an ATV is recommended for getting around other nearby places, although Santorini has a frequent bus transport system.
There are ferries that operate between Kamari beach and Perissa beach that take about only 10 minutes.
Private Transfers from Santorini to Kamari costs around EUR 25. It is recommended to book them in advance as there are few cabs available on the island.
Operating Hours:
Restaurants and shops remain open till late at night and most bars on the beach side open till morning.
The beach is accessible throughout the night while water sport activities open at sunrise to close by sunset and the playground closes by 6:00 PM.
Stay: Kamari serves as a better option to stay on a tight budget over other popular towns like Fira and Oia.
