Drogarati Cave, Kefalonia Overview

Drogarati Cave is a 150 million years old cave close to Melissani lake on the eastern coast of Kefalonia. It is famous for its shard-like pointed limestone formations called stalactites and stalagmites, which emerge from the top and bottom of the cave. These natural geological formations result from water dripping from the ceiling, which falls and hardens over time. Several concerts and events are held in the main hall within the cave called the Chamber of Exaltation due to the exceptional acoustics of the site. The caves are open in summer from May to October.

The Royal Balcony is a natural platform within the cave that provides a panoramic view of the entire cave. Climb down the built-in stairs to reach the main entrance of the cave. An 18th-century earthquake shattered the cave roof, which led to its discovery. The 60m deep cave has a cool temperature of 18 degrees and is well-lit with a carpeted path. Several cafes are in the vicinity. The Melissani cave is also a short distance.
