Constructed in the 16th century, the Selimiye Mosque is a historic mosque situated in Edirne, Turkey. It is a masterpiece of Sinan and one of the highest achievements of Islamic and Ottoman architecture. The mosque is known for its large central dome, four minarets, intricate interior decorations, and detailed calligraphy.
Being one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011. Not only is it an important place of worship for the local community but also a popular tourist destination in Edirne.
