Castle of Kefalos

Kos

Castle of Kefalos, Kos Overview

The Castle of Kefalos is a medieval castle dating back to the Byzantine Era in South West Kos. Even though the castle was destroyed during an earthquake during the late 15th Century and was later abandoned in the early 16th century, the remnants of the castle provide insight into the Templar architectural style. The court also has a fantastic view of Kamari Bay, Agios Stefanos, and Kasti Island from the top.

The castle is accessible from Kefalos town by car or motorcycle, but the top view is a short walk uphill through a paved path. A large portion of the ruins is blocked from public entry. There are some deep holes in the ruins to watch out for. Access to the castle is free, but there are locals dressed in Greek attires who accept donations.
