Situated in Kota Tinggi, Thekchen Choling Malaysia is a Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist temple of the Mahayana sect. The temple houses one of the largest statues of Avalokitesvara (a Bodhisattva) constructed in Tibetan style. The statue rises to a height of about 36 feet and is the largest Thousand-Armed Chenrezig statue in Southeast Asia.
The beauty of this statue is further accentuated by turquoise stones, corals, pearls and dzi-beads. The Malaysian temple is associated with the Thekchen Choling temple in Singapore that was established in 2001. Thekchen Choling Malaysia was founded by Singha Rinpoche in October 2012. The Buddhist temple is named after the 14th Dalai Lama, Thekchen Choling. The words Thekchen Choling mean Great Mahayana Dharma Temple. Further, the temple also houses sacred Dharma texts and relics of the 14th Dalai Lama, 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, Sakya Trizin and several other revered personalities.
