Sarawak State Museum, Kuching Overview

The Sarawak State Museum, located in Taman Budaya, is one of the oldest and most comprehensive natural history museums in Borneo. Inspired by the Normandy town-house, the museum building houses the ethnographic collection and natural history displays.

This historic museum, although open to the public was originally just a temporary settlement until the late 19th century where a more permanent structure was created which not only stuns visitors with its inspired architecture, but also fills their minds with awe and respect for the generations of people inhabiting Sarawak.

Starting from the plethora of flora and fauna which are indegenous to the region and have evolved over the years to the daily lifestyles and habitats of the ancient tribes and ethnic groups of Sarawak, the Sarawak Museum is a great place to visit.

How to Reach Sarawak Museum

Taxis are easily available in Sarawak and the taxi services are quite efficient. Thus, if opting to take a taxi all the way up to the Sarawak Museum, make sure you pre-book the taxis prior to the trip.

The bus routes are not very well connected and the nearest bus stop to the museum is not within a walkable distance from there.

There are a few parking spots around the museum. However, they get filled up by the visitors who arrive during the early hours, so hiring a car for the day or driving all the way to the museum is not preferred means to reach the destination.

Need to Know
