Kutaisi State Historical Museum holds more than 200,000 unique cultural and historical artifacts of Western Georgia starting from the 9th- 8th century B.C. up to late medieval times. These exhibits include Bronze Age artifacts discovered at the territory of Western Georgia, rare items of Georgian, Byzantine, Roman, and Oriental history, an impressive collection of old epigraphic monuments, Georgian books and manuscripts, and ornaments.
The museum has a Golden Fund, a Gold Treasury section. The exhibits in this section include crosses, ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arabic, Iranian, and Turkish coins, and icons that are decorated with valuable metals and gems. This section also holds a gold stater imprinted with the image of Alexander the Great and coins traced back to Georgian kings. Photography is allowed inside the museum. It also organizes various temporary exhibitions and educational programs throughout the year.
