White Bridge Kutaisi

White Bridge, Kutaisi Overview

The White Bridge, one of Kutaisi’s most iconic attractions, spans the picturesque Rioni River in the heart of the city’s old town. It was built between 1850 and 1852 by military engineer Vite. Its name comes from the white railings and the smooth white stones in the river below, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere. The bridge’s airiness and historical significance make it a perfect spot for leisurely walks.

The bridge has undergone several restorations, with the most recent in 2019, adding glass tiles and poetic inscriptions to its structure. Besides being a pedestrian crossing, White Bridge is known for its legends and rituals. Locals tell stories of boys proving their love by jumping from the bridge into the river, and the tradition is immortalized in the statue of the "Picasso Boy," a charming sculpture that captures the youthful spirit of Kutaisi. A stroll along the bridge offers breathtaking views of the old town, and many visitors take photos with the Picasso Boy statue.
