Arktikum, Lapland Overview

Arktikum is a science and culture museum in Rovaniemi, dedicated to Arctic nature, indigenous cultures, and the history of Lapland. One of its most famous features is its stunning glass tunnel, which provides panoramic views of the Arctic sky—a great spot for seeing the Northern Lights in winter.

One of the highlights is the exhibition on the Sami people, the indigenous inhabitants of Lapland. Visitors can learn about their traditional way of life, clothing, music, and reindeer herding. There are also fascinating displays on how Arctic animals and plants survive extreme conditions, including interactive sections where you can feel the texture of Arctic animal fur and test your knowledge about polar ecosystems. It features exhibits on Lapland’s development, the impact of World War II on the region, and how Rovaniemi was rebuilt after the war. There are also sections about climate change and its effects on the Arctic environment, making it a great place to understand the challenges facing this fragile region.
