Located on the banks of the Geneva Lake and in the lap of the Alps, is the Chillon Castle. The castle is one of the most visited sites in Switzerland. It is considered unique because of its oval shape and the views of the lake the city from the castle.
The castle consists of a Gothic-themed dungeon made up of untouched stone from the island the castle is built on. It has four courtyards, each of which has a unique history waiting to be discovered by you! The three Great Halls of the castle were used as feasting places by one family of the royals, while another one used them to provide justice and punishments. The décor of these rooms represents both these aspects of the history. The windows in these rooms also provide a breath-taking view of the Lake Geneva’s beautiful landscapes. There are several other rooms and sections in the castle, representing the rich history of Switzerland. It has stood the test of time for around 1000 years now. The castle is divided into various sections, each representing a unique and interesting chapter of Swiss history. It also has over 300 items that were found during the archaeological excavations carried out at the castle from 1896 to 1903. Aside from exploring the castle, one can also enjoy various events and exhibitions that happen throughout the year.
