Famous for its curry houses, Brick Lane, also known as Banglatown, owing to its large diaspora of the Bangladeshi community, is a street in the East End of London. Buried in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the place is abuzz with culture, is a famous shopping destination and is known for its delicious street food.
Brick Lane is a true representation of London’s city life with a melange of different communities and cultures, all weaved together in one place. Apart from the influx of Bangladeshis, this place sees a mix of Jewish, Irish & French cultures as well.
It is known to have one of the best Sunday markets in London. Bagels and Donuts- Enjoy and savour the Jewish delicacy of salted beef bagels being served by many bakeries in Brick Lane, the most sought after being the always open Beigal Bake and Beigal Shop, right next to one another. And while you are at it, treat your sweet tooth with doughnuts from Crosstown Doughnut and chocolates from Dark Sugars;
Curries- While we are at the subject of eating mouth-watering dishes at Brick Lane, don’t forget to try Britain’s National dish- the Curry, something Brick Lane is well-known for and has close to 50 shops serving it in various forms;
