Eaton Canyon Falls in Pasadena fills a picturesque amphitheater atop the Eaton Canyon Trail and plunges into a small wading pool. Flanked with hikers bathing in the waist-deep water, this falls offers a dynamic view of the San Gabriel Mountains and is a great spot for horseback riding too. En route to the falls, perches covered with pines, oaks and floral nurseries guide you along.
Known as one of the best waterfall hikes in Los Angeles County, Eaton Canyon Falls experiences moderate traffic of both people and off-leash pets. The area assumes a robust flow in spring when the spring snow melts and ice can be seen floating on the pool during this time. Eaton Canyon Falls is filled with fern leaf phacelia, sunflowers, rare Californian chia and other wildflowers. The trail meanders through narrow canyons and a rugged mountainous forest which is very walkable due to relatively flat, semi-arid terrain. Built for hikers of all aptitudes and abilities, there is one paved trail while the other is a rural repast amidst the San Gabriel hills. Your reward awaits you at the foot of the falls which boasts of a spectacular man-made rock wedge and is a favorite spot for photography among visitors for all the splashing water.
