Renowned as LA’s most family-friendly waterfall hike, Holy Jim Falls boasts of an eminent history beginning in the 1870s with James T. Smith, a beekeeper who owned the estate. Tucked amidst the heart of Santa Ana Mountains, this legendary falls is fed by the crystalline mountain tributaries of Trabuco and Holy Jim Creeks.
Holy Jim Falls is a great spot for viewing the Saddleback Mountain and Santiago Peaks ahead. The canyons close in at the bottom of the falls, allowing water to tumble over and create a plunge pool in front. You and your furry friends can dip your feet and even swim here. There is a camping ground right next to the falls where you can rent family tents and RVs. The hiking trail to the waterfall begins with a dirt road and has plenty of private cabins with peacocks for pets! The shady circles of pines, alders and oaks provide ambient picnic spots every few miles. On your way to the falls, you can indulge in horse riding and mountain biking along the thrilling paved trail. Unlike other waterfall hikes in Orange County, visitors are allowed to drive throughout the forest for which a high clearance vehicle is recommended.
