Switzer Falls is renowned to be the most hiked waterfall trail among Angelenos and tourists alike with healthy flow all year. Reaching Switzer Falls is a unique “upside down” venture as the trail descends gradually after beginning at Switzer Picnic Area and meandering along San Gabriel Mountains to the creek beneath the waterfall.
Fellow hikers, kids and furry friends can be often seen enjoying at the small wading pool created by Switzer Falls’ cascade. This pool has a spectacular granite bed that accentuates surrounding, lush oaks and alders. Since you see the upper tier first, it is a great opportunity to climb down the boulders for a frontal view. A well-maintained track is also available which is not as steep as the rugged walls. The first stretch of the trail follows narrow ridges of Bear Canyon through a road dating back to the 1930s. You would cross Arroyo Seco Creek a few times, offering breathtaking ruins of the resort era. Benches flank both sides of the stream where you can unwind for a picnic. Biking is also an adventurous activity to indulge in here as it allows you to safely take the route less traveled through the charming tropics lining the trail.
