Best time to visit

The best time to visit Nam Dee Waterfalls is during the rainy season between August and November when water levels are at their best. If you want to hike to the bottom of the falls, visit from October onwards when the rains subside.

Activities in and around Nam Dee Waterfalls

The village of Nam Dee, in which the waterfalls are located is known for the Lenten people, an ethnic community from Southern China. These people make their living through dying Indigo and Rye fabric, weaving traditional clothes and making a lot of bamboo-based products, especially bamboo paper. You can tour the village where you can also buy some of the hand-made products, including handicrafts, bamboo products, bags and other unique things that are eco-friendly.

The waterfalls are popular among the locals than the tourists who picnic here with friends and families during the weekends and holidays. You can get to the viewpoints to get panoramic views of the falls and the mountains around. Or you can also trek to the bottom of the waterfalls. If you are hiking, be cautious of the path as it gets narrow, steep and dangerous at some points. You can go swimming in the pool during the winters when it doesn't rain.

Tips

There are some options for food and drinks in restaurants and cafes near the falls, but expensive. It is better to carry your food and picnic.

There are public toilets near the waterfalls, but no ATMs around. It is recommended to carry some cash.

If you are opting to swim, wear modest swimsuits and avoid bikinis as the town is still conservative.

Carry umbrellas, spare clothes to change into if you plan to swim and good hiking shoes if you plan to trek to the bottom of the waterfalls. 

The path is slippery and dangerous, so be cautious of your steps. It is better to start early to make your way back before sunset.
