The Valley of the Queens, situated on the west bank of Luxor city, is a significant archaeological site in Egypt. Serving as the official burial grounds for the wives and children of the royal family. Located just a few kilometers south of the famous Valley of the Kings, is mainly popular for tomb of Nefertari.
This historic site comprises linked valleys containing around 70 rock-cut tombs, out of which only 4 are open to public. Each tomb features long corridors leading to the main burial chamber and smaller side chambers. While the Valley of the Kings exudes majesty and grandeur, the Valley of the Queens holds its own charm, with some tombs designed by the same skilled artisans who worked on the royal tombs.
One of the most captivating attractions in the Valley of the Queens is the tomb of Queen Nefertari, the beloved wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II. Discovered in the 19th century by Ernesto Schiaparelli, this tomb boasts a unique design and stunning paintings that have mesmerized tourists worldwide. Other notable tombs include those of Prince Amen, the heir to the throne, and Queen Tyti from the 20th dynasty, depicted in various stages of life.
