Fourvière Hill, located in Lyon's historic district, is a UNESCO World Heritage site offering panoramic views of the city. Known as the "hill that prays," it is home to the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, built in the late 19th century, and ancient Roman ruins, including an amphitheater from 15 BCE. It is easily accessible via a funicular, one of the world's oldest funicular railway lines.
These funiculars are called the “Funiculars of Lyon”. Walk to the top of the hill or take a funicular for enjoying the most scenic view of the city during sunset and sunrise. La tour Metallique, the highest point of Lyon and Lyon Fourviere Museum of Gallo Roman civilization are the must-visit destinations of the hill.
Other useful objective information : The funicular network connects the entire hill with the starting ticket price of EUR 2 that changes as per the distance and destination. There are accommodations available on the hill for a longer stay.
