Sultan Park is a famous public park in Maldives located opposite the Islamic Centre in Male. Also known as Rasrani Bageecha, it was formed after transforming the palace's royal gardens built in the 16th century. Sultan Park is known for its lush greenery and quiet surroundings which makes it ideal for picnics and walking. Best time to visit is early morning or late evening.
Sultan Park has ponds surrounded by white lilies which add seven stars to their beauty. Even after being centrally located in the city, it manages to create a peaceful and calming atmosphere. The serenity is so much so that birds singing over the tree branches can be heard. The giant iron gate at the entrance of the park is the only piece that speaks of the palace's former glory. One wing of the former Royal Palace was converted into the Maldives National Museum which can be visited with Sultan Park. The museum houses an elaborate collection displaying the heritage and history of Maldives.
