Palàcio Rio Negro is an early 20th century colonial mansion which is now a museum and cultural centre.
One of the prime attractions of the city, this elegant palace was built in 1903 as a residence of a wealthy rubber baron Waldemar Scholz. With the decline of rubber trade, the house was acquired by the government and served as the residence of governor for many years. With its elaborate designs and its varnished floor, the mansion now serves a museum and cultural centre housing displays of Brazilian artwork and exhibitions of antique furniture. The museum takes visitors into the golden era of Manaus's history when the city was at its prime.
