Hollingworth Lake, Manchester Overview

Hollingworth Lake is a reservoir at the Smithy Bridge in Littleborough, Greater Manchester. Hollingworth Lake Country Park is an award-winning tourist destination. The lake is surrounded by various cafes, restaurants, & a hotel.

It has facilities for motorhomes & caravans on the opposite side of the lake. The watersports that you can enjoy here include swimming, sailing, rafting, rowing, canoeing, windsurfing, and fishing. Besides, you can have a picnic amid this stunning location, spot wildlife in the nature reserve, or just enjoy the reposeful Hollingworth lake walk.


The lake spans 130 acres (53 ha) and the main footpath around the lake runs 4 km (2.4 miles approx). Originally constructed as the main water source for the Rochdale Canal, Hollingworth Lake later emerged as a tourist resort in the 1860s and became known as the Weighver’s Seaport. Since then, there has been a progressive increase in facilities and now it is a flourishing hub for water sports and other recreational activities.
