Slaughterhouse Beach, also otherwise known as Mokule’ia Bay, is situated in the same preserve where Honolua Bay sits. The preserve is called Honolua-Mokule’ia Bay Marine Life Conservation District. Although the neighboring Honolua Bay is rocky in most parts, Mokule’ia Bay offers a sandy beach where visitors can spend time relaxing.
The name of the beach, Slaughterhouse Beach, got its name after the slaughterhouse that was once functioning in the area. Mokule’ia is a Hawaiian name that means the district of abundance, and just like several other Hawaiian names, this beach fits the meaning just right. This lovely beach is great for snorkeling especially during summer, whereas in the winter, the water gets too rough.
