Alahan Monastery is an early Christian church and a historical and cultural monument. It is one of the most important architectural structures of the Byzantine era, with unique frescoes and mosaic work. It provides a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. It's also known as a place of pilgrimage for Christians.
Several temples were built in memory of St. paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, and Alahan monastery is one of them. Located on a mountaintop, there are 2 churches, rock toms, water resources, baths, a columned road, a baptistry, and accommodation places around the site. Churches and the Hagia Sophia Museum share architectural elements. Its ornamentation demonstrates excellent stone sculpting. The original church has three naves, a Corinthian crown, and two rows of columns. Reliefs adorn the side pillars of the entryway leading from the narthex to the main area. The hall where religious rites were held is in the shape of an 11-meter-long arched and columned gallery to the south of the vast courtyard.
