Gulek Castle, Mersin Overview
Known for its historical significance, the Gulek Castle features a large outer wall, several towers, and a small inner courtyard with impressive stonework. It is situated 1600 meters above ground level. Highlights include its cylindrical towers, the underground cisterns, and the remains of a church.
Most of the building materials are bossage-type stones, typical of Armenian masonry. Towers, lighthouses, forts, and tunnels were constructed with mosaic designs on the main floor. You can also explore the castle's ruins and walk along its ramparts to take in the views of the countryside.
