Mamure Castle, Mersin Overview

Mamure Castle is a historic marvel built in the 10th century and considered one of Turkey's best-preserved examples of medieval military architecture. Explore its various rooms, towers, walls, small mosque, bathhouse, and inner courtyard, learning more about its history and importance as a defensive fortress. The castle offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside and coastline.

Mamure Castle was constructed on old foundations and was built on steep cliffs and grasslands. It is divided into three sections: the outer castle in the west, the outer courtyard in the east, and the inner courtyard built on the cliffs to the south of them. The fortress comprises a mosque, a bath outside, water cisterns, and 39 towers. A single-domed mosque with a centrally organized layout, a fountain, storage facilities, cisterns, and maybe military quarters are all found near the outer fortress. North of the interior courtyard is where the main entrance gate is located.
