Located on Biscayne Bay, the Kampong is famous for housing more than fifty different varieties of mango and the best part is that one can even taste them! Named for the Malay or Javanese word for a ‘village’ or ‘cluster’ of houses, this lush tropical garden is one of the five gardens under The National Tropical Botanical Garden, located in Miami. Spread across six acres, The Kampong Planting Heritage collections from the Carribean, Central and South America and Southeast Asia, include exotic fruits and rare species of flora. Scientists from all over the world come to the Kampong to study their species of cyads, palms and flowering trees. The Kampong Garden organizes many walking tours, with experienced guides so one can get an in depth knowledge of the history associated with the garden.
