Milan trams have been operating since the early 1900s and are integral to Milan's public transportation system. They offer a glimpse into Milan's rich history and are a unique way to experience its beauty and charm. Milan's vintage trams have a long and exciting history.
They were introduced to the city in the early 20th century and quickly became a popular mode of transportation. However, as newer and more modern trams were introduced, the vintage trams were slowly phased out. In the 1970s, the city decided to preserve some of these historic trams and put them back into service for tourists and locals alike. The trams have now been restored to their original glory, complete with wooden benches and brass fixtures.
The vintage trams run on Line 1, which connects Piazza Castello to Piazza San Babila. The route takes you past some of Milan's most famous landmarks, including the Duomo and La Scala opera house.
