Parrot Rock, Mirissa Overview

Parrot Rock in Mirissa is a stunning location opposite Secret Beach. It is a red-colored rock formation that can be crossed from the secret Beach during the low tide. Parrot Rock doesn’t have much to do at the top, but there is enough room and supple grass that many people can have a nice picnic on the top. If you visit at the correct time, you can catch the sunrise or sunset from the top of the rock. The place is perfect for photography. There is a coconut tree hill in Mirissa that is visible from the top of this rock. It usually isn’t that crowded throughout the day so you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the whole Marissa Beach with tall palm trees, raging waves and golden sand. The rock is straightforward to climb, and it is a kid-friendly activity. You have to cross the 50 feet in the water, and there are stairs to take you to the top of the rock. The water near the Parrot Rock is also suitable for swimming for people of all ages due to the gentle waves and lesser depth.

The visitors have to cross the water to get to the rock and getting wet is inevitable. The water is about waist length high so preferably carry a change of clothes. Also, try to take a waterproof bag to protect your belongings. The rock is free from the crowd throughout the day but gets very crowded during sunset time. If you plan on taking pictures, visit the Parrot Rock earlier during the day. The place is very sunny, and visitors are advised to carry sunglasses and wear sunscreen for protection.

How To Reach Parrot Rock, Mirissa

If you are staying in Mirissa, then Parrot Rock is easily accessible. You can take a Tuk Tuk ride to Mirissa Beach and get to the rock. If you are staying in nearby areas, then some buses stop near the beach. If you have flown into Colombo, take the train to Weligama which is about 7-8 kilometres from Mirissa. You can take a bus or Tuk Tuk ride to reach the beach. The Bus will cost about LKR 50, and Tuk Tuk ride will cost about LKR 300. Most people visit Mirissa after visiting the hills countries of Nuwara, Eliya and Ella. In that case, a bus or taxi ride is the best option, and it will take about 4 hours to reach.
