History of Monywa
Monywa was founded during the 14th century and was a centre for trade, cultivation and industries because of its location. Farming of paddy, rice, jute and cotton has been in practice for centuries. After the British conquered Burma, they developed Monywa into an industrial centre as well. During WWII, the town suffered massive destruction bringing down many industries including textiles and lacquerware.
