Muar, also called Bandar Maharani, is the capital of Muar district in Johor, Malaysia. Recently declared as the royal town of Johor, it is also the 4th largest city in Johor. This city oozes traditions and cultures which is reflected in its heritage architecture. Known and explored for pre-war architecture, temples and some good restaurants and Chinese teahouses, Muar is an offbeat stop between Melaka and Johor Bahru.

The historical pre-war well-preserved commercial building still dominates the town’s architecture. Muar's roads are all painted a certain colour while most of the heritage buildings are inscribed with the year of their construction. The city's primary action is centred around the Muar Riverside, lined with mosques, colonial houses, and parks. Ching Giap See Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the state of Johor. Historical attractions in Muar include Bukit Kepong Police Station, Kubu Bentayan, and Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah I Mausoleum. Other attractions of this town include - Tanjung Emas, a recreational park that has a river cruise for tourists, Mural art, Ferry Pier, and Opera. 

Muar is also known for Nyonya style otak otak (fish cakes) and satay breakfasts along with Malay food such as mee bandung Muar, rojak, satay, and asam pedas. Javanese cuisine and desserts like pisang goreng, and mee siput Muar, a local snack eaten with sambal, is only available in Muar.

Muar is very accessible by road. Besides highway 5, a federal road, Muar is also accessible via the PLUS Expressway, better known as North-South Expressway Southern Route. The nearest railway station is at Segamat, after which one can take a bus or a taxi to reach Muar. The nearest airport to Muar is the Melaka International Airport (MKZ). The other airports include - Senai International Airport (JHB), Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). However, one still has to board a bus or catch a taxi, or rent a car, to reach Muar.
