Mundakayam is a beautiful taluk in the town of Kanjirapally, Kottayam. It's a land of rubber plantations and waterfalls situated 52km from Kottayam district. The town is also called as the Doorway to the Highranges in southern Kerala.

Apart from the lush greenery, Mundakayam is also home to the Manimala River which is known for Mundi Cranes. It is said that the town got its name from the bird species that are found on the river bank. It also has a lot of coffee, pepper, cocoa and rubber plantations. Sabarigiri International Airport is a proposed airport project that was declared by the Kerala government in 2017. This is supposedly situated 15km from the town of Mundakayam.

Places to Visit

1. Vellappara Waterfall
Located in Urumbikkara, Vellappara Waterfall is 1 hour away from Mundakayam. Covering the distance to explore the waterfall is worth it as the experience is heavenly, with beautiful glances of raw nature. Wake up, freshen up, partake your breakfast, and tie your shoelaces for a day worth remembering. Set off for the day at 11:00 AM and reach Aruvickachal Waterfall by roughly 11:45 AM. Click photographs and make memories at the place, and play a little in the water too. Leave the Mundakayam at 2:00 PM and grab your lunch. Further, move to Urumbikkara Topstation and reach there by 4:00 PM. Explore the beauty of the place and inhale the fresh air. Leave the site at 5:00 PM and head towards your hotel.
