The Fish Fountain is located in the old town of Munich in front of the New Town Hall on the Marienplatz. It has gradually evolved into a popular meeting and time-spending place in the city of Munich. The fountain is a perfect epitome of craftsmanship which deserves a special appreciation.
The Finschbrunnen at present has grown into a culturally rich location where famous traditional events such as 'Butcher's leap,' which is performed every three years, is a kind of baptism celebration and 'Wallet washing' popularly known as a 'good luck' tradition to eradicate the upcoming financial worries. The present fountain is the reconstructed piece by Josef Henselmann. The original piece, built between 1862 to 1865 during the middle ages, was a significant part of the water system of Munich, which was heavily ruined during the second world war.
