Situated in Bhadraj on the western part of Mussoorie, the Bhadraj Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna’s brother Lord Bal Bhadra or Balram. Besides its religious significance, the temple is best known for the long 11 km trek that it takes to reach it. Known as the Milkman’s Trail, it starts from Cloud's End in Dehradun and offers splendid views of the surroundings.
Bhadraj Temple is perched on a hill top and overlooks the magnificent Doon Valley, Jaunsar Bawar and the Chakrata ranges. It is believed that by praying here, people are granted the wishes they most desire, just like at the Badrinath Temple. Many offer milk, ghee and butter to the idol of Balram which is only purified with milk. Each year, from 15th to 17th August, the temple organises a fair that attracts thousands of devotees who come to offer their prayers and to see the displays of the culture and traditions of the locals.
