The Aegean Maritime Museum, located in the Tria Pigadia area of Mykonos, showcases the Greek maritime history and traditions. It houses more than 5000 volumes of history, manuscripts, and photographs. The museum exhibits models of ships from the pre-Minoan till date, old historical documents, ancient artefacts, rare engravings and maps, navigational instruments, rare coins and nautical themes from the fifth century BC to the fifth century AD.
The green spacious garden in the Aegean Maritime Museum consists of ancient gravestones of the sailors and shipwrecks from Mykonos and Delos islands. It is housed in a Cycladic style building from the 19th century belonging to Captain Nicholas Sourmelis who helped the Cretans in the war with the Turks.
