Bonis mill is a 16th-century stone-crafted mill in Mykonos, overlooking the bay. It is the only mill that is open to the public as a museum. The visitor gets insights into the pre-industrial methods of bread and winemaking in the museum. Located on the outskirts of Chora, the windmill offers a spectacular view at sunset.
Bonis Mill was acquired by the folklore museum in 1962 and was turned into an outdoor museum known as the Agricultural Museum of Mykonos. The threshing floor, oven and mill enable the process of converting wheat to flour and into the final product of bread, one of the most important foods of Mykonos. The mill also has a miller’s home, pigeon house, tools used for agricultural purposes, a treadle and pre-industrial era machines. Every year on the second Sunday of September, a harvest festival is organized at Bonis mill that offers local food and drinks.
