The Mykonos Municipal Library displays the life of Mykonos in a beautiful and unique way. Located in Ayra Kyriaki Square, Cyclades, it was an old magnificent mansion of a Mavorgeins family which was later acquired by the government to convert into a public library in 1977. The library consists of more than 6000 volumes inclusive of various sections like the history of Greece, children and foreign literature, theatre, poetry, art and much more. It also houses a collection of Cycladic coins, stamps, maps and old engraving.
The library has a small collection of books in English and French. The books in the Mykonos Municipal Library have been donated by Ioannis Meletopoulos (Mykonian historian) from his personal library and John Ratekin (American artist). John Ratekin after his visit to Mykonos created the first “Tourist guide to Mykonos”.
