The urban gazetted Karura forest is located in Nairobi, Kenya, and is abundant with natural beauty and resources. It is divided into three parts by Limuru and Kiambu roads. The forest has a natural trail running up to 50 km that facilitates visitors to walk, run, and bike around the forest. One can also rent a trail bike.
The forest is home to two very beautiful waterfalls, the Karura waterfall, and the Ruaka waterfall. Other attractions include a bamboo forest and Mau Mau caves. The forest is also a great choice for picnics and other outings. There are several picnic spots in the forest, namely Amani, Kfeet, Ruaka, Sigiria, and Karura garden. This forest runs upto 2,570 acres, and is home to a number of wildlife animals, including a couple of species of monkeys, porcupines, bushbacks, and bushpigs amongst others. Indegenous plants like Brachyleana huillensis, Olea europaea, Warburgia ugandensis, and others are also found in this vast forest. One can opt to go on an eco tour in this forest, which includes birdings, animal sightings, and plant and vegetation tours, amongst others.
