The diverse wetland ecosystem of Muthurajawela harbours herons, cormorants, kingfishers, lapwings and the like, along with birds of prey such as kites and sea eagles. Tourists could take early morning or evening boat rides through the marshlands. They could also catch sight of the Toque Macaque, fishers in the lagoon, catamarans returning from sea, and the over 194 species of flora the region houses.
