Also known as the Bronx Riviera, Orchard Beach is the only public beach in the Bronx. For most parts of New York, this is the closest beach, making it very popular amongst locals.
The beach attracts a vibrant mix of people and there is a lot of activity and music playing during the day. Those looking for relative peace can head to the ends of the beach where the rocky coast makes for some great fishing spots, or into the adjoining Pelham Bay park which has shaded rest areas and bicycle paths. There are also ample sports facilities to satisfy the crowds of young people that visit here everyday. The beach is accessible by public bus and takes less than an hour to reach from the city center.
In the evenings, the drive in movie theatre next to the beach is fast becoming a popular option amongst visitors.
