5 miles of soft, sandy coastline makes up the beaches of the Robert Moses State Park on Fire Island. The stretch is divided into 4 separate beach areas or ‘fields’, each having its own vibe and crowd.
Whereas the two beaches in the middle are radio free zones and are more quiet and peaceful, the beaches on the edges are full of activity and tend to be more crowded. Visitors can walk to the historic Fire Island Lighthouse or use the 18 hole miniature golf course which is just a few minutes from the beach, all the while surrounded by nature and wildlife. Concession stands, a children’s park and regular public facilities are also available nearby.
Open throughout the year from sunrise till sunset, these picturesque beaches are particularly popular for surfing and fishing during spring and summer. During the winter, the state park becomes a hub for winter recreation and sports activities, making this a year round attraction.
