Broken Beach is a secluded beach located beyond a spectacular coastal rock formation from which it gets its name. Located on the southwestern edge of Nusa Penida, the beach is identified by a rocky wall a few meters from the shore that cuts it off from the main sea but makes an arching gateway through which the water passes and creates a cove. The beach is locally called Pasih Uug.
The rock formations that make this place special are truly a wonder of nature. It is so unique that it has given rise to many lore and legends about the hole's origin. A circular path by the edge of the limestone cliffs travels along the circumference of the cove. You can walk the whole length, including over the archway, for a great view of the Indian Ocean ahead. This place is a great spot for photographers.
There is no way to get down to the cove for a dip, and cliff jumping can be quite risky. You may spot silhouettes of giant mantas near the water surface from above and come across long-tailed Macaque monkeys on the land. You can also trek to Angel’s Billabong from Broken Beach by following the signs. On the way, you will pass by the Manta Ray Viewpoint.
