Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Palanpur Overview

Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary, established in May 1978, is located in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat, approximately 45 km from Palanpur. Spanning an area of about 180.66 square kilometers, the sanctuary is nestled within the Jessore hills of the Aravalli range, which serve as a natural barrier against desertification from the neighboring Thar Desert.

The sanctuary is primarily dedicated to the conservation of the vulnerable sloth bear (Melursus ursinus), but it also provides habitat for other wildlife such as leopards, blue bulls, wild boars, and various avian species. The diverse flora includes over 400 plant species, contributing to the ecological richness of the area. Visitors can explore the sanctuary's natural beauty and wildlife through designated trails and may consider staying at nearby accommodations like the Jessore Campsite for a more immersive experience.
