Pattaya Viewpoint, Pattaya Overview

Situated on top of Phratumnak Hill (Pattaya Hill) at the borders of South Pattaya and Jomtein, the Pattaya Viewpoint provides a magnificent view of Pattaya Bay and the cityscape. The famous Wat Khao Phra Bat Temple is also located here. The easiest way to reach here is by songthaew.

Despite being thronged by tourists, Pattaya Viewpoint is wide enough to comfortably accommodate and provide an uninterrupted view right up to Pattaya Beach towards the north and Jomtien Beach to the south. In addition to being an observation deck for tourists, Pattaya Bay hilltop houses the monumental structure of Admiral H. R. H. Prince of Chumpon (also known as “Father of Royal Thai Navy”) and the Wat Khao Phra Bat Temple, which is claimed to house a relic of Lord Buddha himself.

Wat Khao Phra Bat Temple

Situated on top of the Phratumnak Hill, the Wat Khao Phra Bat temple comprises of an 18–meter tall statue of Lord Buddha facing the Pattaya Bay. In addition to this, one may also find many small statues of Lord Buddha placed throughout this small temple near Pattaya Viewpoint. The temple also houses a replica of Lord Buddha’s footprint. One of the fascinating things which it different from other temples in the region is that there are no monks living in the premises, and the place has been developed simply to showcase the faith in Buddha.

Tips to Memorize

  • Wear decent clothing (covering the shoulders and knees), if planning to visit Wat Khao Phra Bat temple along with Pattaya Viewpoint
  • Carry an umbrella or a raincoat if planning a trip to the city during the monsoon months of April to October as there is no shelter present at the observation deck

Admiral H. R. H. Prince of Chumpon Monument

Also popular as the founder of the Royal Thai Navy, visit the monument structure developed in the memory of the Thai navy officer, located on the top of Pattaya Viewpoint Hills. Observe the small naval officer statues placed at the periphery of the monument along with other nautical devices and equipment. It is advised to light up some incense sticks at the monument as a humble gesture towards the Navy officer.

How To Reach Pattaya Viewpoint

To reach Pattaya Viewpoint, drive towards the south from Central Pattaya region, going past the Bali Hai Pier and under the Easy Karts Race Track Bridge. From there, drive straight towards the Phratumnak Hill. If planning to use the Songtaew (Baht Bus), it will cost around THB 100 per person for a one–sided trip.
