Chini Lake, Pekan Overview

Lake Chini, Malaysia's second-biggest natural freshwater lake is a series of 12 freshwater lakes. Located in Peninsular Malaysia, it is home to hundreds of flora and fauna species. The beautiful Lake Chini is sprawled in an area of 12,565 and is inhabited by the Jakun branch of the Orang Asli tribe of Malaysia. It is also one of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve sites in Peninsular Malaysia.

Lake Chini is endowed with 138 species of flora, 300 species of vertebrates, and 144 species of freshwater fish along with a bed of lilies and lotus all over the water body. Enjoy boating and canoeing through the rainforest terrain. You can also trek through the jungle and reach Terapai and Mentagan Waterfalls, experience hiking on the Chini Mountains, and learn the rich history as well as the culture. The best time for all the activities is in the month of July to September for an enchanting experience.

Legend of Lake Chini

Local Tribes of Orang Asli residing around Lake Chini believe the existence of a Naga Sri Gumum, a dragon who is protecting the lake for many years. People of Jakun Tribe are convinced with some sightings of the monster dragon over the years, however, it has never been proved by any scientific evidence.

How to Reach Lake Chini

The only and most convenient way to reach Lake Chini is by road. Two ways are accessible to Lake Chini, one from the Kuantan town and the other via the Segamat highway. Board a car or taxi and travel to Kampung Belimbing, further taking a boat to the Chini Lake.  Apart from this, one can also drive along with the Segamat Highway and palm oil estate roads to reach the lake.
