The Grand Theatre of Pompeii is an ancient, well-preserved theater in Pompeii, Italy. It served as the city's main center for cultural and entertainment events, hosting plays, musical concerts, and gladiatorial contests.
It was constructed in the 2nd century BC. This is the oldest surviving amphitheatre in the world, built in stone around BC 80. Locals would sit in the elliptical shaped amphitheatre - the elite and the richest would sit in the front, the poor would sit behind. Even today, you can see the difference in the seating between the front and back seats. While walking around the ancient excavations, the Teatro Grande is a good place to relax and eat your lunch. Today, the theater is a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a glimpse into the cultural heritage of ancient Rome.
