Bayworld, Port Elizabeth Overview

Bayworld is a museum, Oceanarium and snake park located in No. 7 Castle Hill in Port Elizabeth. The Cultural and Natural History Museum is the third oldest in the country. The Oceanarium displays Algoa Bay's rich and diverse marine life in South Asia, and the snake park has an extensive collection of reptiles. The No. 7 Castle Hill building itself is a national monument and major landmark in Port Elizabeth.

The museum has exhibitions on dinosaurs, birds, costumes, maritime history, local history, beadwork and the first people of the bay. It is known for having a 15-metre skeleton of a Southern right whale, a life-sized reconstruction of the Algoasaurus and a 5-metre bronze cannon from the 1640s. The oceanarium is a lovely opportunity to learn about fish, fur seals, turtles, and cape gannets and view public feeding sessions. However, the oceanarium is most famous for having the country's second-largest captive population of African penguins. Not only will you be able to view and learn about snakes, lizards, crocodiles, tortoises and terrapins in the snake park, but you will also interact with them. The staff will also provide general or special interest tours on request of the historical No 7 Castle Hill building.
