One of Port Elizabeth's most popular historical attractions is the Donkin Reserve, which tells a fascinating narrative of the discovery and growth of the Loving City. It hosts the Pyramid and Lighthouse, features seats, palm-lined walks, and a Stone Pyramid Monument with a moving inscription built by Sir Rufane Donkin in honour of his late wife Elizabeth, after whom the city was named.
Donkin Reserve is located off Belmont Terrace in Central and offers stunning city views. It had been restored entirely in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2010. It now features magnificent mosaics, metal artwork, benches that reflect modern graffiti art, a chrome figure of an African woman, and a lot of abstract art. In addition, there is a bistro with breathtaking views of the harbour and the city centre and a tourist information centre for those who want additional details about things to do and see in Port Elizabeth.
